National Taichung Theater

National Taichung Theater is more than a place for theatrical performances—“it is itself a brilliant performance of opera,” said the architect Toyo Ito when describing his design. Indeed, the building is an architectural wonder which shows its beauty in every corner and as a whole. 

Taichung Liuchuan Canal Waterfront

After dredging and improvements, Liuchuan (Willow  River) Canal has immediately become a top attraction in Taichung City. During the day, Liuchuan gives a carefree vibe perfect for family outings as kids can have fun watching koi fish in the clean water. As night falls, Liuchuan turns into a romantic setting as willows and the swan art installation are illuminated with sparkling lights. It is a great place for night photography and a lovely dating place where couples can leisurely stroll along the canal.

Miyahara

Situated nearby Taichung Train Station on the bank of Luchuan, Miyahara is a red-brick architecture built by Miyahara Takeo, a Japanese ophthalmology doctor in 1927. 

Dawn Cake, a pastry company renowned for its pineapple cakes, acquired the building and preserved Miyahara's original red-brick walls and archway. The interior decor was redesigned like Hogwarts in the movie Harry Potter.

Feng chia night market

One of the most famous night markets in Taichung, Feng Chia Night Market is located within 1 kilometer of Feng Chia University. It includes the Fengjia Wen Hua Night Market, Xitun Road, Fengjia Road, and Fuxing Road. The snacks in the night market will make you drool. The clothing is unique and fairly priced. In addition, the most fashionable mobile phones are also the cheapest in Taichung. The parking problems have improved tremendously behind the effort of Ministry of Transportation and Communications. You can go shopping without any worries, and you will not face the problem of being unable to find a parking spot.

Gaomei Wetlands

Gaomei Wetland located on the south of the mouth of Dajia River is a land mixed with both sand and soil textures and comes in 1,500 acres. That explains why it has complicated yet rich wetland ecology and possesses the largest group of Bolboschoenus planieulmis in Taiwan. Due to diverse geographical features, the species of its ecology is quite abundant. Every year around fall and winter, large flocks of migrating birds would come here for either short or long stay over the winter, serving as the best spot for bird-watching.

Rainbow military housing

The rainbow military housing is in Nantun, Taichung. One of the retired soldiers paints on the wall with paints. However, the housing is facing problem of dismantling for the government’s city plan. There are over 3 thousands of people supporting the rainbow military housing in only 2 days. The retired soldiers started to paint since September, 2008. He paints his dream out on the wall and brings a new life to the military housing. As a result, many people call him Grandpa Rainbow. The spot attracts many people on weekends. The city government declared that the painting is worth to preserve and they will modify their city plan.
